Perodua's production, sales maintain double-digit growth in Jan, Feb 2023

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 — Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), its suppliers and dealers were on overdrive in the first two months of 2023 (2M 2023), as both production and sales recorded double-digit growth.

Production grew by 32.95 per cent to 51,134 units year-on-year from 38,460 units in 2M 2022, and sales increased by 33 per cent to 46,385 vehicles from 34,865 vehicles previously.

In a statement today, the carmaker attributed its performance to improved efficiency in terms of production, better financing facilities for Perodua dealers and greater communication both within the ecosystem as well as with its customers.

“While there are still ongoing challenges with the supply of semiconductor chips and cost increases, among others, we still managed to see double-digit growth in production and sales, and for this, we thank our partners for their dedication,” said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

He noted that demand for Perodua vehicles has also remained healthy so far, hence, the automaker is ramping up production.

“As a result, the average waiting period as of February 28, 2023, is between 2.5 months and eight months, subject to the model, variant and colour.

“That being said, we apologise to our customers and thank them for their patience. We will try to further improve our production and registrations in the months to come, and continue to improve our operations as well as the timing for deliveries,” he said.

Moving forward, Zainal Abidin said that the outlook for the automotive industry is positive, given that the current economic situation remains stable.

“The current focus now is labour stability, especially for the automotive suppliers to ensure that production can be improved.

“We also hope that policymakers will continue to engage with the industry players on future changes that may impact the industry,” he added.
