SHAH ALAM, March 6 — The Selangor government has allocated RM165,000 in its efforts to collect used cooking oil across the state.

State executive councillor for consumer affairs Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said the funds are distributed to 12 local authorities and nine District Islamic Religious Offices (Paid) in the state.

“To increase the number of collection centres for used cooking oil, the state government has taken the initiative to provide allocations to each of the local councils and Paid.

“A total RM10,000 was disbursed to each local authority and RM5,000 for each Paid to carry out the used cooking oil collection programme,” he said on Facebook.

On Saturday, Zawawi launched a used cooking oil recycling programme (Pengguna Arif Minyak Masak Terpakai) to promote the campaign and create awareness among the public about conserving water resources, rivers and beaches.

He said that the programme is targeted to those in residential areas, restaurant traders, hostel dining hall operators, schools and cafeterias.

“ The campaign is expected to educate the people in having awareness and a sense of responsibility towards the environment and practice recycling in their daily lives,”
