SHAH ALAM, March 2 — The Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) van service has begun, with the Kinrara state constituency serving as the locality for the pilot project.

State executive councillor for public transportation Ng Sze Han said the service, equipped with smart software to make it easier for users to plan their journey, will be extended to other state constituencies later on.

"The DRT service is similar to van pooling, but uses smart software that helps users plan their journey and reach their destination within a specified period.

"For starters, the service was brought to the Kinrara state constituency, at Bandar Puteri Puchong, for a three-month trial period," he said when contacted.

Ng, who is also Kinrara's state assemblyman, said DRT's route passes through 17 residential areas and 20 commercial stops, including the Bandar Puteri and Taman Perindustrian Puchong LRT stations, as well as Columbia Asia Hospital.

During the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget on November 25 last year, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari announced the state government would allocate RM25 million to strengthen public transport, under the Selangor Mobiliti programme.

To this, RM22 million has been provided to 11 local authorities for the continuation of the Selangor Smart Bus initiative, with another RM3 million set aside for the implementation of Selangor Mobiliti Phase One, which also includes DRT van services.

He said the service will complete Selangor's public transport ecosystem, and functions based on demand via a smart routing app, instead of a stop-and-go bus system.
