PETALING JAYA, March 1 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is actively carrying out removal works of water cabbage and water hyacinth plants from two lakes in Kelana Jaya.
MBPJ Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the cleaning works in Tasik Komuniti near the Glomac building and Tasik Bandaran near the MBPJ Stadium is a measure to prevent unwanted situations from happening.
“If viewed from a distance, the two lakes look like a beautiful new field but are actually very dangerous.
"We are worried that unwanted situations will happen, especially to children, if they play near the lake," he told SelangorKini.
Mohamad Azhan said the work of cleaning water hyacinth plants in Tasik Komuniti is about 90 percent complete, while Tasik Bandaran which is full of water cabbage plants was just cleared a few days ago.
"We suspect that the breeding of these plants is due to the irresponsible actions of a few parties who threw fish with aquarium water containing water cabbage or water hyacinth plants," he said.
Mohamad Azhan added that after the cleaning work is completed, he will install warning signs and closed-circuit cameras as a safety measure.
