SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has issued 1,045 fines totaling RM625,840 on traders last year for various offences.

Its deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali said out of the total, 537 summonses were issued for operating roadside stalls and obstructing public spaces and 272 cases were for operating a business without a licence.

“A total of 192 cases involved displaying advertisements without a licence, 35 cases involved heavy vehicle use in prohibited locations and hours, seven cases involved illegal dumping and two cases involved entertainment centers operating without a licence.

“We take this subject seriously and would not hesitate to take individuals who fail to comply with the law to court,” he during the local council's monthly meeting yesterday.

Mohd Zulkurnain also urged hawkers operating on the roadsides or on parking lots to immediately stop the activity as it poses a safety risk to customers and road users.

“The public is also urged to report any illegal activities carried out in the city,” he added.
