SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) distributes 24 dengue kits to council members as a proactive measure to combat aedes breeding in their respective areas.
The public relations section of its corporate department said that the kit distribution was made following the increase in dengue fever cases at the moment.
“Selangor is expected to face a 150 per cent increase in dengue fever cases next year if the community does not deal with aedes mosquito breeding grounds seriously.
“As a measure to prevent and manage the increasing cases of dengue fever, the vector control unit of the Solid Waste Management and Health Department distributed dengue kits to council members,” it said in a statement yesterday.
Earlier, the kit was presented by MPS president Dato’ Mohd Yazid Sairi at the Town Beautification Committee Meeting as well as the Business and Health Control Committee Meeting.
The local authority also advised people to clean their houses once a week for 10 minutes by looking for and eliminating aedes breeding grounds as well as making sure that there is no place that can hold water openly.
Mohd Yazid said individuals experiencing signs and symptoms of dengue fever are requested to seek immediate treatment.
"It is hoped that this proactive measure by MPS can control the spread of dengue fever and increase community awareness of the importance of keeping the environment and community areas clean so that they do not become dengue hotspots," he said.
