MPAJ demolishes unauthorised residential structure following public complaints

SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has demolished a structure that was part of a two-storey house, which was built without permission at Kampung Dato Mufti, following objections from other local residents.

The council's public relations department and secretariat said the complaints and opposition to the presence of the structure were voiced as early as 2017. At one point, a self-demolition notice had been issued to the homeowner.

"We have received complaints regarding this since 2017. Several notices and instructions were issued to the homeowner, instructing them to submit a building approval letter as well as cease all works on the site and demolish the present structure. However, the owner has failed to comply thus far.

"In 2018, MPAJ demolished part of the structure and confiscated its construction materials, but the owner continued the construction work regardless," it said in a statement today.

MPAJ added that on October 28 last year, it issued Notice 72(1) under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, to the owner for the offence of erecting a building without prior approval, planning permission, and building plans.

It said the homeowner has ignored the notice and taken no action to that effect.

"We would like to emphasise that erecting a structure or building without the approval, planning permission, and building plans is an offence. MPAJ will take action if the owner or owners fail to comply with the issued notice.

"Any individual or party that wishes to erect building structures are advised to submit an application and obtain prior approval, before carrying out the construction work," MPAJ said.
