SUBANG JAYA, Feb 12 — The Subang Jaya City Council's (MBSJ) Chinese New Year celebration for 2023 saw people from all walks of life attend, highlighting the harmony among Selangor's residents.
State executive councillor for local government and new village development Ng Sze Han said the venue of the celebration near near Kampung Baru Batu 14 in Puchong made it all the more special, as it was one of the area's early settlements.
"Though I have attended many Chinese New Year celebrations before, for me tonight's celebration organised by MBSJ is quite special since the location chosen is close to Kampung Baru Batu 14.
"This location is where Puchong first began as Batu 14, over a century ago. Similarly, the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple nearby has also been here for decades. As such, the area is over 100 years old, and is a treasured heritage we should all look after well," he said in his speech during the celebration at Dewan Serbaguna MBSJ Batu 14 in Puchong, yesterday night.
Ng cited another new village in MBSJ's administrative area, Kampung Baru Seri Kembangan, which is the largest new village in Malaysia.
"I should think we are most fortunate as these two new villages are in MBSJ's administrative areas.
"MBSJ has carried out efficient administrative work, through its hardworking officers. Even though they are new villages, their facilities are comparable to those in the cities," he said.
Meanwhile, Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin said the people's harmony is key to the success of any nation.
"Harmony is crucial, as the country can achieve success if everything is harmonious," she said.
