SHAH ALAM, Feb 12 — The water treatment plants (WTP) of Rantau Panjang, Sungai Selangor Phase 1 (SSP1), Sungai Selangor Phase 2 (SSP2), and Sungai Selangor Phase 3 (SSP3) have since resumed their operations after a temporary shutdown caused by an odour pollution incident at the Rantau Panjang WTP Intake.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd said clean and safe treated water supply began to be distributed in stages beginning at 6.30am today.
"The duration of the water supply recovery in the affected areas will vary, depending on the distance and location of the consumers’ premises," it said in a statement.
Alternative assistance through water tankers will be provided to the affected areas during this unscheduled disruption, with priority for critical premises like hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres, and funerals.
"Air Selangor will provide updates progressively from time to time through all mediums, especially the mass media.
"Consumers can refer to all our official communication channels such as the Air Selangor app, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, or call the Air Selangor Contact Centre at 15300. They can also view the list of affected areas at https://hentitugas.airselangor.com/ and the Air Selangor app," it said.
Yesterday at 9.45pm, a diesel-like odour was detected at the intake of all four WTPs, necessitating a temporary shutdown. By 1.30am today, raw water began to be pumped into the Rantau Panjang WTP and into the SSP1, SSP2, and SSP3 WTPs by 2.15am, after a Threshold Odour Number of zero was recorded three times in a row.
The unscheduled water disruption has affected approximately 1,037 areas in the districts of Petaling, Gombak, Klang, Hulu Selangor, and Kuala Langat, as well as areas around Shah Alam.
