19 local artists exhibit works in nature-themed exhibition

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — A total of 19 local artists have joined forces to display their best works in Alam Art Exhibition: An Artistic Journey into Malaysia’s Fauna, Flora and Forests.

Organised by Heart2Art, the art exhibition, which runs from Jan 30 to Feb 26, brings together 134 works showcasing the natural beauty and wildlife of the country’s forests, which are rich in various species of flora and fauna.

An artist known as Maba Jaffar who has been involved in the field for 18 years said she was attracted to produce works depicting wild animals such as orangutans, birds, and tigers using the acrylic technique on canvas.

“It is to foster a spirit of love for the environment in future generations so that when they see my paintings one day, they will know that these animals inhabit this country and represent Malaysia,” she said.

Maba, who is a full-time housewife, said the process of producing a piece of art usually takes about four weeks depending on the type of painting and the details of the artwork.

A fellow artist who specialises in live sketches, Stan Lee Cheow Hee, 70, who has been involved in the art world for the past 50 years, said drawing the beauty of nature on a piece of canvas is a form of therapy for him.

Held at The Ledge Art Gallery at One Utama shopping centre, the exhibition was officiated by the Malaysian National News Agency Chief Executive Officer Roslan Ariffin today.

According to Roslan Malaysia has many talented artists on par with international painters, hence Bernama is ready to provide coverage to help local talents make their name on the global canvas.

“Painting is also an important communication tool to convey information. As journalists we write, while artists draw and deliver messages from the heart,” he said.
