LRT disruption: DBKL issues stop work order on Menara SOHO project

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued a Stop Work Order for a construction site in Jalan Raja Laut here with immediate effect following service disruption on the Ampang Light Rail Transit (LRT) line on January 27.

Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said the stop work order was issued to 'Tetuan Persekutuan Seruan Islam (Jam'iyah) Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan', the owners of the proposed project which involves the construction of the 44-storey Menara SOHO building comprising 326 units with a basement on Lot PT 163.

He said the decision was made from the outcome of a meeting held with representatives of the Land Transport Agency (APAD), Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) and several DBKL departments last Saturday (January 28).

"This directive is a safety measure to ensure that APAD and its related agencies can investigate, scrutinise, and then determine the cause of the LRT service disruption," he said in a statement today.

He said the project is currently only at the preliminary stage, involving earthworks outside of zone 1 and zone 2 (protection zone).

“DBKL through its One Stop Committee (OSC) will also seek the involvement of APAD and Prasarana to obtain their views especially when there is a development application in or near the Railway Protection Zone," he added.

On January 27, the LRT service for the Ampang Line experienced delays due to a kinked track alignment near the Bandaraya LRT station.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd in a statement stated that preliminary checks found that the LRT service delay was caused by damage to the flyover structure carrying the rail tracks due to construction work adjacent to the area.
