GOMBAK, Jan 24 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has expressed his pride and joy at the spirit of unity portrayed by the people in Selangor.

He said the unity spirit should be maintained for the people’s well-being.

“I am overjoyed. One of the hosts for today's visit even dressed in Malay traditional attire and had welcomed visitors of various races.

“From the good relations, I get to witness the warmth and cooperation towards one another.

“This spirit has to be maintained to ensure Selangor remains a peaceful state,” he said when met during his visit in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival in Sungai Tua, here today.

He added that it has become a tradition for him to visit the Chinese community during the festive season.

“This has become an annual practice since I became the Sungai Tua state assemblyman, formerly Batu Caves, where I would spend time visiting friends and grassroot leaders at their homes.

“I am delighted as their friends, family members and other leaders would also join the visit. This could strengthen our relationship with the grassroots and show our appreciation towards their efforts and contribution in managing the state,” he said.

Earlier, the Menteri Besar spent his time visiting the Chinese community in Gombak parliamentary constituency.

Amirudin, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhammad, visited three houses in Hulu Kelang and Sri Gombak this morning, where he had casual chats and photo sessions with the people in the area.

The Menteri Besar also took the opportunity to toss ‘yee sang’ with the residents before continuing his visit to the Sungai Tua state constituency in the evening.
