SHAH ALAM, Jan 19 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI will allocate RM1.68 million for back-to-school aid this year, said its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor.
He said the allocation will go to an estimated 16,800 students from underprivileged families in Selangor, who will each receive a RM100 cash initiative
"We have extended the aid application period to January 24, so that all state assemblymen have the opportunity to fill in the quota list of 300 for each of the 56 state constituencies.
"Once the quotas have been filled, we will process the payment to the state constituencies, for them to directly distribute it to the students by as early as February, or during the school holidays," Ahmad Azri said.
He was speaking at the handover ceremony for the automated external defibrillators medical equipment to Shah Alam Hospital, in its lobby yesterday.
For more information on MBI's back-to-school aid, members of the public may directly contact their respective state constituency community service centre.
Terms and conditions for the aid are for applicants to have a monthly household income of RM4,000 and below during this year's school session. Previously the income threshold was RM2,500 and below.
