SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 — The Jom Shopping voucher rate has been increased from RM100 to RM200 per family, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the monthly household income limit has also been increased from RM2,000 to RM3,000 per month and beneficiaries of the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) programme are also eligible to apply.

“The state government received feedback from senior citizens who applied for the Jom Shopping voucher assistance in conjunction with the three main festivals this year, namely, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali.

“Consequently, the voucher rate has been increased by another RM100 for each family, while the monthly household income limit has been increased to RM3,000 per month,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Amirudin added that recipients of the SMUE programme are also eligible to apply for the vouchers given that the economic situation is quite stressful currently.

“These assistance and aid efforts are hoped to ease the people’s burden and provide support to the needy in line with the state government’s determination to not have anyone left behind,” he said.

Amirudin said that overall, the state government estimates that there are 82,400 beneficiaries for the programme with an allocation of RM16.8 million.

Previously, recipients of SMUE and Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) were not eligible to apply for this festive shopping voucher.
