SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 — Assistances for the disabled persons' group (OKU) in Selangor have been streamlined under the Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa (SMIS) aligned with the state government’s agenda to prioritise their welfare.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said through SMIS, the state government has provided the OKU group with a shopping voucher worth RM150 annually and RM500 of death benefits.
He said previously, the scheme which also includes the senior citizens' group, was given on their birthday month, however, after making some amendments, the recipients are entitled to redeem their vouchers at any time.
“The initiative involved an allocation of RM30.5 million. As of December 22 last year, some 441,880 recipients have registered under the programme, of which include 417,003 senior citizens and 24,877 OKUs.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), we will continue this initiative as it has benefitted many senior citizens and the OKU group in Selangor.
“May our vision to be a caring state remain as our main pillar,” he said on Facebook today.
On November 25 last year, Amirudin said the state will continue to solidify its commitments to ensure the well-being of the OKU group through SMIS.
The scheme, which was restructured from the previous Skim Mesra Usia Emas, provides a shopping voucher worth RM150 compared to RM100 previously.
