MPK is confident of achieving city status by year end, focus on upgrading old buildings

KLANG, Jan 4 — The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) is confident it can achieve city status by the end of this year.

MPK president Noraini Roslan said they had received approval from the state government to achieve that status.

"After this, all we need is to propose it to the Ministry of Development and Local Government (KPKT) which they will present to the cabinet for approval.

"God willing, if approved, Klang will achieve city status by the end of this year," she said when met after the swearing-in ceremony of MPK councilors for the 2023 term at the MPK headquarters here today.

Previously, Noraini informed MPK to focus on developments in the city of Klang in preparation to achieve city status by 2023.

She added that among the challenges faced by MPK include the need to upgrade the Royal City's infrastructure, especially old buildings.

"Therefore, the cooperation of all stakeholders to carry out their respective responsibilities efficiently and with integrity is essential, so that progress is achieved without sacrificing the environment, culture and heritage of the city of Klang," she said.
