SHAH ALAM, Jan 2 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has made it mandatory for all food operators to wear face masks effective January 1.
The Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said the directive is included in Article 5: Business License and Advertisement Compliance Conditions under the Food Premises and Food Operators activities.
"Information on the use of face masks has been published on MBSJ's social media pages including in license approval letters issued to new traders.
"Therefore, it is mandatory for all traders to comply with the instructions set by the MBSJ administration," it said to SelangorKini.
Meanwhile, Azfarizal said periodic inspections and monitoring will be done at all food premises to ensure there are no violations of the instructions.
He added that advice and awareness will be given first before enforcement is taken, so that the implementation of the directive is accepted by traders.
"This move coincides with one of MBSJ's core aims to form a Civil Society in the City of Subang Jaya," he said.
On December 29, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the mandatory use of face masks for hawkers and restaurant operators in the state from January 1 is aimed to improve the level of hygiene in food handling.
He said this approach can also increase customer confidence in addition to avoiding the spread of Covid-19 and food poisoning issues.
