Serve, NGOs to cooperate in realising Kelantan post-flood mission

KOTA BHARU, Dec 28 — The Selangor Volunteers (Serve) and the Special Action Squads (Pantas) will collaborate with local NGOs to carry out the post-flood relief mission in Kelantan in January.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the collaboration between both sides is a necessity, as the mission is expected to face a myriad of challenges, including residents in remote areas, telephone and Internet access, as well as damaged basic facilities and road surfaces.

However, he is confident the post-flood clean-up work will proceed smoothly with such coordination in mind.

"Serve and Pantas will collaborate with the local NGOs to organise a post-flood relief programme in Kelantan, which is expected to take place next month.

"For this mission, we will go down to the lower areas to help. This is why discussions were carried out since Monday (December 26) and today, so the work movement is more organised," Amirudin said.

He was speaking at an afternoon tea programme with Yayasan Darul Hijrah at Jewels Hotel in Kota Bharu yesterday, which was also attended by its chairman Datuk Husam Musa and Selangor state executive councillor for human capital development Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

At the event, the Menteri Besar also handed over a RM50,000 mock cheque to Yayasan Darul Hijrah, as part of the strategic cooperation contribution to Kelantan's post-flood programme.

On December 20, Amirudin said the state government, via Pantas and Serve, are ready to serve in any form of post-flood humanitarian aid, as soon as the situation permits.
