3,000 RiDE participants receive EPF contribution, other benefits — MB

SHAH ALAM, Dec 25 — A total of 3,000 p-hailing workers under the Roda Darul Ehsan Initiative (RiDE) received the Employees Provident Fund contribution worth RM50.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme, which was introduced in 2020, also provided other benefits to its participants including the Social Security Organisation contribution and the Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan).

“RiDE was implemented in 2020 and the programme has since benefited some 6,500 p-hailing riders. Today (yesterday), we handed over the last batch of applications for this year that were eligible to receive RM500 of cash assistance and RM50 of EPF contribution.

“Since its introduction, the scheme, which was included in Iltizam Selangor Penyayang, has received high demands with over 14,000 applications.

“This year alone, we received some 6,200 applications. The state government continues to initiate various moves to ensure the people’s welfare is protected,” he said at a press conference after the handover ceremony here yesterday.

Amirudin added that the idea to set up RiDE emerged after looking at the need to protect the p-hailing workers following high demands from the public towards the sector, especially after the spread of Covid-19.

“During the first year, we helped them to get a licence. However, since most of the riders have already obtained their licences, the initiative was changed into an appreciation donation from the state government.

“In 2021, we have improved the initiative by providing Socso’s contribution, and now, we want them to be protected under the Insan programme,” he said.
