SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — The complaints of local residents over the hawker and petty trader stalls along the reserve road shoulder of Jalan Taqwa in Persiaran Puchong Permai, Puchong were among the reasons why the structures were demolished by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).

Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said the complaints included traffic congestion and the cleanliness of the traders, some of whom were found to be renting permits to other hawkers.

He said residents in the area have also accused MBSJ of lackadaisical action against the hawkers, in spite of several actions being taken since 2020.

"We have taken action over various complaints like traffic disturbances and hygiene issues. In the end, we had to enforce the demolition that has already been delayed several times before," Johary told SelangorKini.

On Wednesday (December 21), MBSJ demolished 25 illegal structures along the reserve road shoulder, and also offered business sites and food courts to the hawkers and petty traders which are situated at Dataran Niaga Puchong Permai.

The mayor added he believes their businesses will not be affected due to the various facilities provided in the square, which is located only 300 metres from the original site at RM30 per month for each plot rental, for one out of three sessions.

"The location is very close. I do not think it will affect their businesses as the customers are locals, to begin with.

"On the contrary, Dataran Niaga Puchong Permai's facilities are also better as there are many parking spaces for the comfort of visitors," he said.
