SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has provided RM70,000 in funds to the Selangor Social Welfare Department for flood relief.
Its chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek said the assistance came in the form of 1,000 units each of hygiene kits and ready-to-eat food packs.
"We provide assistance with hygiene kits and food, as we are aware these victims move to the temporary relief centres (PPS) when disasters occur.
"As such, we made it easier for them by providing things like bath soap and toothbrushes, while the ready-to-eat food only requires heating," she said.
Norita was speaking at the handover ceremony for the aid to the department, represented by its deputy director Mohd Razuki Sibi at Glenmarie Hotel yesterday.
She added MBI has allocated RM500,000 as preparation for aid, should a flooding disaster occur this year.
"Presently, we have spent over RM100,000 for flood relief in 2022," Norita said.
On his part, Mohd Razuki said MBI's assistance given to Selangor flood victims was the right move, in light of the dwindling food supply.
"We thank the state government, especially MBI, for providing food aid and hygiene kits. This aid will be placed at Depoh Simpanan Keperluan Bencana Sungai Buloh, to be distributed to the PPS' involved.
"But as a start, we will focus on the Sepang district as the flood victims in that area are in more need," he said.
MBI has carried out various corporate social responsibility activities throughout the year, including the distribution of sacrificial animals during the Hari Raya Haji festival, hajj charity, and for the people's tuition programme.
Last year saw the organisation spend an estimated RM28 million to carry out welfare programmes and initiatives in combatting Covid-19.
It also distributed RM2.8 million in funds to help flood victims, as well as donations to Tabung Ikhtiar Selangor Bangkit.
