Datum Jelatek Mall opens, set to become shopping focal point of Ampang and Gombak

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — The new 500,000 square feet Datum Jelatek Shopping Centre has officially opened its doors and is set to become the focal point of the local communities in Ampang and Gombak.

The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, was present at the mall’s inauguration here today.

Datumcorp International Sdn Bhd (DCI) chief executive officer Mohd Azmil Abd Shukor said the project started in 2014 and was successfully completed last year.

“We faced many challenges such as the pandemic, which forced this development to be stopped for a while and some other challenges that had to be met as well.

“(However), we at DCI believe that the development will help plan the state's economic cycle and increase employment opportunities for the local community,” he said at the opening ceremony of the mall.

Separately in a statement, DCI noted that the Datum Jelatek mall is in a strategic location, close to a row of foreign embassy offices and a mix of luxury, medium and low-cost neighbourhoods that will become the focal point of the local community.

“This is in line with the company’s motto of ‘Bridging the Community’,” it said.

The project is a transit-oriented development directly connected to the Jelatek LRT station and four residential blocks containing 712 units connected by a bridge.

“The occupancy rate of the commercial space has reached around 70 per cent currently and is expected to reach 95 per cent by the fourth quarter of next year,” DCI said.

This shopping centre operates daily from 10am to 10pm.

DCI is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
