SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is determined to take Selangor towards a collective administration, instead of practising oligarchy or a one-man show.
He expressed optimism following the involvement of over 30 state representatives during the 2023 Selangor Budget debate session, including from the Opposition.
“The 2023 Selangor Budget was debated by some 32 state representatives. This demonstrates how democracy is well-established in the state, as all council members, regardless of their political affiliation, expressed their opinions.
“Each of them contributed their thoughts and ideas to create a budget that was both inclusive and collective. This practice has summed up Selangor’s desire (to be a collective administration),” Amirudin said during the budget wind-up, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.
On November 25, the state government allocated RM2.45 billion for next year’s budget in preparation for the anticipated economic slowdown.
The Menteri Besar said the figure was relatively higher than the RM2.34 billion allocation in 2021 for this year.
Of the RM2.45 billion, RM1.25 billion or 51 per cent has been set aside for operating expenses while the remaining RM1.2 billion has been earmarked for development.
