Limit water, beach recreational activities during monsoon season — MPS

SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — The public has been advised to limit water and beach recreational activities following the current high-tide phenomenon and heavy rains.

Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) deputy president Cheremi Tarman said residents must also obey the authorities’ instructions.

“This is due to the weather changes as a result of the northeast monsoon season hitting the country at the moment, so all water and coastal activities need to be limited,” he said after chairing MPS’ monthly meeting yesterday.

Cheremi also advised those residing in areas at high risk of flooding to obtain the latest weather information from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) portal, and save all contact numbers of the nearest police and fire stations.

“A letter of instruction to all Federal and state agencies has been issued for all parties to be prepared, in case of another flood,” he said.

Previously, MetMalaysia predicted Selangor would face a rainfall rate between 100 and 400 millimetres (mm) during the northeast monsoon season, from the middle of this month until December.

Cheremi added MPS’ Solid Waste Management and Health Department will hold a public dialogue session with strata management bodies and resident representatives to discuss solid waste management and public hygiene on December 5.
