SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — The state government has approved a total investment of RM4.5 billion to expedite the use of modern technologies in addressing garbage disposal problems in Selangor.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the amount will be utilised to build a 245-acre infrastructure development project called the Selangor Green Energy Ecopark in Rawang through KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM).

“We have anticipated that the existing landfills would no longer be able to accommodate the waste that will be generated in the future.

“Therefore, the Waste to Energy (WtE) incinerator technology is being proposed for this project as it does not require a huge plot of land and does not affect the environment,” he said when tabling the 2023 Selangor Budget in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

He said the WtE technology is also capable of producing electricity from incinerated waste, which will eventually provide a long-term solution for solid waste management.

“From the implementation of this project, it is estimated that 85 per cent of disposal leftovers at landfills could be reduced in the future.

“It would also help to lessen the dependence on landfills,” he added.
