KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — PAS will discuss with component parties of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the near future regarding Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's offer for the coalition to join the unity government under his leadership.
Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, in a statement today, said the discussions will also look into the views and willingness of the people, especially those responsible for giving PAS and PN an encouraging performance in the 15th general election (GE15) last November 19.
Anwar, in his maiden press conference after his appointment as prime minister yesterday, said that the unity government formed, which so far involved the participation of Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), will ensure the stability of the country and its economy as well as uphold the spirit of the Federal Constitution.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the participation of any party, but on the condition that they must agree with the fundamentals of the formation of the unity government, which is good governance, zero tolerance for corruption and Malaysia for all Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said PAS also congratulated Anwar on his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister yesterday.
"PAS is confident that he (Anwar) will discharge his responsibilities well, fairly and with benevolence, as well as also prioritise the concept of federalism which is appropriate for all states and the people," he said.
PAS also congratulated the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah for His Majesty’s wisdom in discharging the functions as provided under the law, especially on the appointment of the Prime Minister based on Article 40(2)( a) and Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution, he said.
"PAS is grateful to Allah S.W.T that the post-GE15 conundrum on the country’s leadership has been resolved harmoniously and peacefully.
“PAS accepts with an open heart all God's provisions which certainly have their own wisdom," said Takiyuddin.
Anwar, who is PH chairman, took his oath of office as the country's 10th Prime Minister before Al-Sultan Abdullah at Dewan Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara here, yesterday.
