DAP's Loke meets Sarawak premier in hopes to open new chapter

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — DAP top leadership has paid a courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg at his house in Kuching this morning.

In a statement, its secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that the visit was to build a consensus and cooperation for a more developed and progressive Malaysia.

“I hope that the meeting would open a new chapter to build consensus and cooperation for a Malaysia that is more developed and progressive,” he said on Facebook.

The meeting was also attended by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Sim Kui Hian.

Loke had also apologised on behalf of the party over any statement made by party leaders that offended the Sarawakian government and its people.

Yesterday, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) stated that it would agree to the formation of a unity government following the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Meanwhile, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng also issued a separate apology for his past remarks that may have offended the Sarawak Premier and its state government.

“I apologise for my remarks that may have offended the Sarawak Premier and the GPD Sarawak state government.

“The future of the country is more important. Let us make a fresh start to cooperate together to preserve the diversity, inclusiveness and unity of our multiracial and multicultural society as well as protect our Federal Constitution for the benefit of all in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

Earlier today, the former ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) had signalled that it would support a unity government that is not ruled by Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The recently held 15th general election had resulted in a hung parliament after none of the coalitions was able to garner a simple majority of 112 seats for the federal government.

Pakatan Harapan had won 82 seats, followed by PN with 73 seats and BN 30 seats.
