KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is prepared for the risk of flash floods on the polling day for the 15th general election (GE15) this Saturday.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said the city council has set up an operation room at Menara DBKL 1 to keep tabs on the city's weather.
He said additional support will be provided by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the Multi-Hazard System led by a professor from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
“These agencies will help in terms of making forecasts and advice on weather conditions such as rainfall, rainfall intensity and areas at risk of flooding.
“From that data, we will take the next action such as placing additional sandbags near the river, depending on the situation. We are prepared to face it,” he was quoted by Bernama yesterday.
Mahadi said DBKL had also established a partnership with Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) to monitor the drainage system and make sure it is operating well and is not clogged.
“We also have a traffic warden who not only carries out the task of directing the traffic or enforcing the law but also implements something that is unexpected,” he said.
