GE15: Bangi in need of a moderate elected rep

By Alang Bendahara

BANGI, Nov 14 — The diverse demographics of the voters in Bangi calls for a moderate elected representative to represent the interests of the constituents in Parliament.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Bangi parliamentary seat Syahredzan said there are 303,430 registered voters in the constituency with a rough estimate of one million population, although the official figures stand at over 600,000.

“So Bangi is unique as it is a mixed seat where there is a majority of Malays but the Chinese and Indian populations are also very high.

“Therefore, whoever is elected as the member of parliament here needs to be able to serve all races. They cannot only cater to just a particular race or religion. It is important that the candidate would be able to take a middle ground,” he said when met after visiting the morning market at Kampung Baru Batu 11, Cheras, on November 12.

When asked about his election campaign, the 39-year-old lawyer was pleased with the response he received so far and hoped it would result in a victory for him.

The DAP’s Social Media Bureau chairman, who was born in Selangor, is also the former chairman of the Constitutional Law Committee and the Young Lawyers Committee at the Bar Council, and a Bachelor of Law graduate from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.

In the coming general polls on November 19, Syahredzan faces an eight-cornered contest against Hoh Hee Lee (Barisan Nasional), Muhammad Nazrul Hakim (Perikatan Nasional), Annuar Salleh (Pejuang), Chee Chee Meng (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and three independent candidates, namely Suthan Mookaiah, Muhammad Fauzi Hakim and Jamal Hisham Hashim.
