GE15: MB denies allegation of selling Padang Changi land

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin has denied the claims made by the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in the ongoing 15th general election, regarding the selling of the Padang Changi public land in Sungai Tua.

He said the allegation by Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin against the state government was an act of soiling one's honour through deceit, all for the sake of raking in votes.

“This is the second time he repeated the same accusation when campaigning for GE15. As a matter of fact, the land was registered under an individual named Yap Kwai Heng on May 17, 1957, and was then transferred several times until it was registered under the current owner, Uda-Alattas, on May 26, 1977.

“This clearly shows the state government was never involved in the sales transactions concerning Padang Changi, as the plot has been privately-owned since 1957,” Amirudin said in a statement.

The Pakatan Harapan candidate for Gombak reminded his opponents to campaign with dignity.

“Do not sell your dignity for the sake of gaining votes because Gombak’s people are aware of current events, and want a dignified representative,” he added.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) vice-president was announced as the second candidate for the parliamentary seat by the Election Commission, facing off against four other contenders.

Asides from Megat, Amirudin is challenging the incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali on the Perikatan Nasional ticket, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s Datuk Aziz Jamaludin Mhd Tahir, as well as Independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad.
