Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan injured in gun attack during march to Islamabad, party says

NEW DELHI, Nov 3 — An attempt was made to assassinate Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan on Thursday as he led a march towards the capital Islamabad, his party leaders said.

"Cowards carried out a murderous attack in Wazirabad (an area of Punjab province)," Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Farrukh Habib said, adding that Imran was injured.

Video footage showed Imran being carried from the customised container truck he was riding to a car by his security team.

Another party leader said the former prime minister was hit by bullets in his leg.

Imran's close associate and Senate member Faisal Javed Khan was also injured during the firing.

The PTI started its 'long march' from Lahore city on October 28 to demand early general elections. It was to culminate in Islamabad on November 4 but the convoy has slowed due to massive crowds joining it along the way.

PTI leaders have said they will delay their Islamabad arrival by a few days.
