Malaysia contributes over quarter mln in medical aid to Sri Lanka

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — Malaysia has donated medicines worth RM288,610 to Sri Lanka and the aid had been sent to Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital, today.

In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said the consignment was sent via Sri Lankan Airlines in collaboration with the High Commission of Sri Lanka here.

According to the statement, the contribution comprises 1,000 vials of Amphotericin B 50 mg injection to treat life-threatening fungal infections, 20,000 vials of Heparin 25,000 I.U/5 ml injection to reduce blood clotting and help prevent blood clots from forming in blood vessels, and 10,000 ampoules of Aminophylline 25 mg/ml in 10 ml injections for the treatment of obstructive airway diseases.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin handed over the medical aid to the Sri Lankan ambassador to Malaysia, Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya today.

"The contribution symbolises the close relationship and friendship between Malaysia and Sri Lanka, and the aid is to help the country recover from its socio-economic crisis," said the statement.
