KLANG, Oct 23 — The Selangor government is committed to making sure that the people of Selangor would live comfortably after facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said Covid-19 was a learning experience for all including the state administration.

“The Covid-19 pandemic served as a timely reminder for us to take care of one another. This meant that we should have plans, responsibilities, and obligations to make life better and happier.

“Despite facing numerous trials and hardships, the state government overcame the challenges by coming up with environmentally friendly policies and taking into account the views of all parties to ensure that no one is left behind.

“For example, we introduced a vaccination programme (at the state level) to make sure everyone gets vaccinated to curb the spread of the virus. I would like to thank everyone and the state administration for giving their full commitment until we have successfully entered into the transition to the endemic phase,” he said in his speech at the state-level Deepavali 2022 celebrations at Jalan Tengku Kelana, here last night.

The event was graced by Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, accompanied by state executive councillor for social welfare V Ganabatirau.

Also in attendance were state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail and several state representatives, including Halimey Abu Bakar (Seri Setia) and Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama).

His Highness had worn the flower garland and handed over money packets to the children who attended the event.

More than 1,000 people from the Indian community had come together to celebrate the Deepavali festival after the celebration was halted for two years the due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Located in South Klang, Jalan Tengku Kelana, also known as Little India, is a popular shopping area during the Deepavali festive season.

This location sells a variety of items for the Indian community such as sarees, textiles, jewellery, spices and traditional foods.
