SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has finished clearing the drains and collecting rubbish around Taman Sri Muda in Section 25, to ensure the surrounding drainage system functions smoothly.
The state-owned solid waste and public cleaning services management company said the clearing work, carried out on Sunday (October 16), is part of its initial preparation to curb flooding in the area during the monsoon season, which is expected to occur at the end of the year.
"The area is one of several flood hotspot areas, and as such, it is appropriate to carry out the cleaning of the drains and any surrounding rubbish," it said in a Facebook post.
During the clearing works, some 60 KDEBWM personnel cleared the drains in four zones, with 30 Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) bins provided to accommodate the collected garbage.
On October 3, KDEBWM said it is prepared with over 1,800 personnel to deal with the possibility of flooding at the end of the year.
Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said this includes cleaning workers and support staff.
"We have 500 RORO lorries that will be mobilised in the event of flooding, with each vehicle consisting of three cleaning workers including the driver, making it 1,500.
"Alongside this, we have a staff of between 300 to 350 people, all of whom are prepared to be moved to locations should floods occur," he said.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has identified eight districts in Selangor as frequent flood locations, including Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
