SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has allocated RM30 million to implement the first phase of the flood mitigation project, which is set to begin in January next year.
Deputy Mayor Mohd Rashidi Ruslan said the project includes upgrading the system of ditches in Taman Sri Muda, as well as constructing a pump house and infrastructure repair works around Section 25.
Other works include constructing a wall on the bank, from Bulatan Aman to the sluice gate at Jalan Srikandi, Jalan Muhibbah and Jalan Bakti.
“In preparing to face the floods, we rented temporary water pumps to be placed at selected locations since early this year;
“For the second phase of the project, MBSA has also allocated RM30 million under the 2023 Budget, including for the drainage master plan project. Overall, RM60 million has been allocated to address the flooding issue,” he said when met at Wisma MBSA after tabling the budget, earlier today.
Mohd Rashidi added that 46 temporary relief centres (PPS) are ready to be activated should floods occur at the end of the year.
He said MBSA will collaborate with the disaster management chairman in two districts, namely Petaling and Klang, to coordinate transfer locations.
“One the biggest PPS that will be opened is at the Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training,” Mohd Rashidi said.
The National Disaster Management Agency has identified eight districts in Selangor as flood-prone areas including Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
