KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Former Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) managing director Datuk Kamaruddin Ahmad believes that the carrier, now called Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB), is in good stead to compete in the current challenging aviation environment.
He said the airline’s priorities, among others, were to maintain operations while at the same time continuously looking at means and ways of improving its system.
“The local aviation environment was different back in the day and there was no competition for MAS to serve the nation, however, there is more competition now among the local airlines.
“MAB is rapidly improving its productivity with enhanced technology and digitalisation that will benefit the company in future in this competitive environment of commercial airlines business,” Kamaruddin told Bernama during the MAS Golden Years 1972 - 2022 celebration on Saturday (October 8).
Meanwhile, Malaysia Aviation Group group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said the airline had endured and lived through an interesting journey over the last few decades.
“From humble beginnings of building the national carrier through Malayan Airways Ltd (MAL) to MAS, to the global aviation organisation it is today (MAB), many of the employees have borne witness to the highs and lows of the organisation.
"I believe we have built the right foundations to set the organisation to greater success for decades to come,” he said.
