KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — The state government has moved to strengthen its educational cluster’s policy and development strategy, especially concerning research, via the third series of the Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo (SRIE).

State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim said the expo’s organisation is indicative of Selangor’s potential in generating the future economy through research and creative ideas.

“This year’s expo achievements include collaboration between SRIE and the National University of Singapore (NUS) for SRIE 2023, as well as a partnership with the NUS and the National Robotic Centre.

“Collaborations between the state government and various parties including industry players, academician and government agencies have created a platform to further propel Selangor’s economy and subsequently turn it into a catalyst for research in Malaysia,” he said in his closing remarks at the expo, here today.

Also in attendance was Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

SRIE 2022 is one of the components under the annual Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, comprising three expositions and four international conferences, organised by the state government.

The expo provides a platform for inventions to be discovered, enabling participants to connect and collaborate within a broader Research and Development (R&D) community by venturing into the Asean R&D market for 2022.

This year features 47 exhibitors from local and international participants, including two from Singapore and one from Taiwan and the United Kingdom respectively.

SRIE 2022 offers industry players the opportunity to converge, interact and explore the latest technology, innovation and current business trends in the field of medicine, life science and biotechnology, medical and healthcare.

Meanwhile, Invest Selangor Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris said SIBS 2022 helped to reaffirm the credibility of Selangor’s Smart State status in leading the way for technological adoption.

“At the same time, the summit has provided timely assistance to entrepreneurs when facing crises, while the response from our exhibitors has been good thus far,” he said.

Last year, SIBS achieved a potential transaction value of RM217.6 million and attracted over 25,410 visitors to 787 booths, surpassing the initial set target of 10,000 visitors with a turnout of 25,410 visitors, ranging from business owners, importers, wholesalers, distributors to retailers and members of the public.

For this year’s edition, SIBS 2022 showcased six main components: the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages, SIE Medic, Selangor Industrial Park Expo, the Selangor Asean Business Conference, the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo.
