Selangor trade summit offers platform for discussion among industry players

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Local and international agencies who took the chance to share and exchange insights on waste management during the Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) should be able to provide a clear direction on how to handle challenges related to the matter.

KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said that it is past due for the subject of waste management to receive more attention from all the federal and state government agencies.

“I believe that officers from the Federal government agencies should be here and listen to what has been discussed. This is fairly important as the funding to manage waste disposal comes from Putrajaya.

“I hope there is a political will from them to allocate more funds on waste management because more can be done if waste operators are provided with more allocations to run their operations,” he said at the SDEC event, here yesterday.

SDEC is one of the six components under the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2022, which takes place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

With approximately 906 booths from 623 companies, this year’s trade summit was launched on Thursday and ongoing until tomorrow (October 9), with the aim of receiving some 30,000 visitors during its duration.

Meanwhile, Ramli said that there are many industry players taking part in the four-day event.

“Therefore, I hope we could exchange notes and views, particularly with representatives from a developed country such as Taiwan.

“We have to learn from the developed state and cities thus enabling us to elevate our waste management to another level,” he said.

KDEBWM is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, which was established with the objective to manage the domestic waste collection and public cleansing services in Selangor.

In March 2016, KDEBWM was appointed as Project Management Company to manage the domestic waste collection and public cleansing service in Selangor, serving 12 municipalities across the state.
