SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — The restoration and upgrades works on the bunds in several flood hotspot areas in and around the Kota Kemuning state constituency have since been completed, via allocations by the state government.

Its state assemblyman V Ganabatirau said the upgrades of the bunds are situated in Kampung Bukit Lanchong, Lanchong Jaya, Alam Megah, Kampung Baru Hicom, and Taman Sri Muda, with the intention of reducing water overflow in the event of heavy rainfall.

"At the same time, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has taken proactive steps by clearing several drains in the area, as well as constructing drains and concrete walls at around RM28 million," he said when contacted earlier today.

However, the pump house installation project at several locations has yet to commence. Ganabatirau said he has requested it be expedited so as to prevent recurring floods, with the recent forecast of the high-tide phenomenon.

Similarly, he urged the Federal government to keep its promise of implementing a project to deal with flooding in Selangor via a RM10 billion fund.

"There is no project by the central government, especially in my area, that has been seen thus far. Hopefully, it is not merely idle talk but will lead to something more concrete.

"Planning ought to have been carried out more properly along Sungai Klang, from the get-go. My worry is that Taman Sri Muda will once again be victimised by floods," Ganabatirau said.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has predicted Selangor will experience a shift from the Southwest Monsoon to the Northeast Monsoon, with a rainfall rate of between 100mm and 400mm beginning in the middle of October until December.

At the end of December last year, Taman Sri Muda in Section 25 was severely affected by floods resulting from unusually heavy rain, which recorded more than double the previous highest distribution of 180mm.
