SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — Selangor has allocated RM5 million to prepare for the major floods expected at the end of the year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the allocation includes the RM4 million from the Covid-19 fund collected from the public, while RM1 million is from the state government.
“The allocation will go to the purchase of communication equipment including satellite phones, in the event of a communication network disruption should the electricity supply be cut off,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking at the launch of the state disaster simulation and training programme earlier today, which saw 343 participants from 67 agencies join in at Dewan Jubli Perak at the Selangor State Secretariat Building, here.
Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) reported that eight of Selangor’s nine districts have been identified as flood hotspots.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage said that the districts include Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Selangor with the exception of Hulu Selangor
All related agencies in the state have been put on standby following a report that predicted heavy rainfall between this month and December, which may cause floods, storms and landslides.
A total of 796 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been gazetted and can accommodate 151,000 flood victims, while 164 boats, lorries and four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles have been sent to all state districts.
