GOMBAK, Sept 25 — Selangor has allocated RM12 million to subsidise basic food items, which are sold at the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) programme to help alleviate people’s burden.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has managed to help shoppers enjoy savings amounting to RM880,000 through the purchase of essential food items sold by the agency, as of last week.
“The state government has allocated RM12 million for this programme which will make its round to 717 locations throughout the state. Chickens are sold cheaper at RM10 each compared to the market price of RM20 each.
“Same goes to eggs, sugar, flour, rice and cooking oil, which can be purchased at a lower price,” he said during the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Selayang Division dinner here last night.
On August 30, Amirudin announced that the state administration has allocated an additional RM10 million to continue the programme under Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat throughout the 56 state constituencies from August 31 to December 31.
He said the programme would focus on offering six basic items, namely chicken, beef, fish, chicken eggs, rice and cooking oil.
