Vouchers distribution, state grants to revitalise post-pandemic tourism in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — The state government has identified several stimuli initiatives aimed at reviving the tourism sector in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period, at an estimated RM114.6 million.

Its long-term efforts include the introduction of Selangor Kita Tourism Vouchers, tourism grants, the Selangor Maritime Gate, and the Go Selangor app, for 2021 to 2025.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the local tourism industry is one of the state's economic cores, to which the state government pays attention.

"The high arrival rate of tourists can lead to an increase of the economic cycle that will ultimately benefit the people of Selangor," he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin added that Selangor recorded the highest number of domestic tourists last year at 10.2 million, per the Department of Statistics' report.

This he said is indicative of Selangor's solid tourism attractions and related products, as well as commanding a sizeable market portion of the industry.

On September 11, Amirudin said improving facilities at the state's tourism center was one of the focuses in the Selangor Budget 2023 to be presented next month.

Pada 11 September, the Menteri Besar said improving the facilities of the state tourism centres will be among the focuses of the 2023 Selangor Budget, which will be tabled during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the end of next month.
