SHAH ALAM, Sept 21 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has established a special disaster committee to handle the possibility of flooding at the end of the year.
Its corporate and public relations division chief Shahrin Ahmad said the council's Special Action Squad's (Pantas) operations room will also be activated on a 24-hour basis for duty at any time.
"We take note of floods possibly occurring, and as such are prepared to mobilise all available assets and provide assistance whenever necessary.
"MBSA is also constantly communicating with all state and Federal government agencies, and checks weather forecasts to always remain prepared," he said when contacted.
Shahrin added the council has also identified potential temporary evacuation centres (PPS) and have taken steps to ensure the premises are clean and complete.
These include public halls and community halls in several locations where floods are predicted to occur, which possess good facilities.
"We want to ensure the flood victims are comfortable. To this, we will ensure all PPS remain clean with good water supply, as well as other facilities," he said.
On September 14, Selangor state secretary Datuk Haris Kasim urged all District Disaster Management Committees (JPBD) to prepare for the Northeast Monsoon season, where rainfall is expected to increase starting in October to December.
In an instruction letter, he said the preparations for the possibility of flooding include for flash floods, storms and landslides in several areas.
