KUALA LANGAT, Sept 21 — The Kuala Langat Municipal Council is ready to face any unforeseen circumstances, in anticipation of the upcoming Northeast Monsoon season.

Its president Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said the council will mobilise its assets and Special Action Squad (Pantas) at any time, should floodings occur.

“We are aware of the warning (monsoon transitional phenomenon) and are fully prepared to face it. MPKL has strengthened its manpower and equipment, including the purchase of two new boats since the one we had before belongs to another department.

“We are also planning a series of simulation programmes to face the disaster involving the Land and District Office, police and firefighters. However, we hope the flood will not be as bad as last year,” he said.

Amirul Azizan was speaking at the final jury meeting of the National-Level Clean, Safe and Healthy Food Court Award, at Medan Selera Pantai Batu Laut in Tanjong Sepat yesterday.

He added that all community halls in the district will be opened to accommodate affected victims.

Amirul Azizan said Sekolah Menengah Sains Banting will also be included as a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) due to its complete facilities, including beds, mattresses and a bathroom.

“This is following the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) decision to allow boarding schools to be used as PPS.

“Currently we have no problem opening other PPS’ in the district. We have been made to understand that Civil Defence Force personnel will be given additional tents from Nadma,” he said.

On September 14, Selangor state secretary Datuk Haris Kasim urged all District Disaster Management Committees (JPBD) to prepare for the Northeast Monsoon season, where rainfall is expected to increase in October and November.
