SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 — The KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has planted 500 mangrove trees at Teluk Rhu, Sungai Apong, Sabak Bernam which is located in the Kuala Bernam Forest Reserve yesterday.
The activity, which is done in collaboration with the Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS) and Selangor Inland Revenue Board (IRB) involved 60 staff and officers from the three agencies.
KDEBWM Corporate Services senior general manager Ahmad Rizal Mohd Daud said the initiative was aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the ecosystem in line with the sustainable development goals (SDG).
"The planting of mangrove trees is important because these trees are able to play a role in preventing erosion and preserving the ecosystem for the sake of future generations.
"KDEBWM is pleased to be able to contribute to the purchase of 500 mangrove saplings in an effort to realise this programme. Mangrove trees also strengthen and enrich the nutrient in the soil which is important for the ecosystem," he said.
He said this during the programme that was also attended by the Sabak Bernam District Council president Azman Dahlan, Selangor IRB director Kamarudin Hashim and JPNS Silviculture and Forest Protection Section Senior Assistant Director Gana Raj Katharayan.
Ahmad Rizal added that they also put up signs prohibiting littering to ensure the forest reserve area stays clean.
