SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 — The cooperation between Selangor and Singapore in developing the field of education, especially automation, will increase the state's ability to provide skilled workers for the country and for Asean markets.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this was realised through the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) with Singaporean company FESTO Pte Ltd and the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

He is confident the collaboration will be able to raise the state’s technical and vocational education and teaching (TVET) to world-class standards.

“The MoU will be able to increase Selangor’s ability to produce the latest skilled workforce for Malaysia and the Asean region.

"During our trip to Singapore, we met Singapore’s Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Maliki Osman. We exchanged views and discussed the potential developments in Singapore and Malaysia, especially in Selangor," Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

On August 22, the Menteri Besar led a Selangor delegation to visit FESTO Pte. Ltd in Singapore to sign an MoU with the company and TUM in the field of education, especially automation.

During the visit, the Selangor delegation was also briefed by the FESTO Didactic Asia Pacific head Volker Schmid on the company’s automation capabilities.

"Alhamdulillah, the visit to Singapore brought back many benefits that can be shared with the people of Selangor. Hopefully, this close relationship with our neighbour will continue to remain strong," Amirudin said.

STDC is a technical education institution under the state government, with the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI as its largest shareholder.
