SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) has been tasked to raise RM700 million for the Sungai Klang deepening project, says Izham Hashim.
The state executive councillor for infrastructure said the project also involves strengthening the river banks throughout the 56-kilometre stretch from Kuala Lumpur to Klang.
“Only RM155 million of that total would be spent in the Taman Sri Muda area, and this construction will begin as early as January next year.
“This project is crucial because water from Kuala Lumpur pours into Sungai Klang a lot during times of heavy rain, and if it is not deepened, it will result in an overflow,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat Building, here yesterday.
According to Izham, the project would take three years to complete and could increase the river's capacity by 30 to 50 per cent.
“We are aware that the parties in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur are acting similarly, and if we don't take action, the water would surely overflow,” he said.
LLSB, a company wholly owned by the Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI, was appointed by the state government on June 1, 2018, to implement development, conservation, and cleanup projects as part of the Selangor Maritime Gateway initiative.
