MPAJ turns food waste into renewable energy, fertiliser

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — Over 250 kilogramme (kg) of food waste has been processed by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council to generate renewable energy and produce fertiliser yesterday.

The local council said its Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department has successfully converted 81.5 kg of leftover rice and 172.9 kg of food scraps into biogas and bio-fertiliser using its anaerobic digester machine.

“The food waste was collected and brought to the designated disposal site which is at the MPAJ’s Anaerobic Digester Centre.

“For your information, the centre will convert the food waste into fertiliser and fuel,” said MPAJ on Facebook today.

The local council added that the machine is safe and does not produce any air pollution or foul smell.
