SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — The Selangor Saring free health screening programme will continue in the future and will be implemented more systematically, said state public health advisor Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli.

He said the initiative, introduced earlier this year, has been made the basis to invite the public to pay more attention to their health and curb diseases at an earlier stage.

"This year we have set a time period to promote Selangor Saring, as we want people to care more about their health. For next year, we will make the programme an awareness campaign, so we can encourage the public to make self-examinations an annual routine.

"The following year, as a long-term measure, we will set up a panel clinic to facilitate the examinations. Similarly, we will also send reminders to keep the public aware of their health checks," Dr Mohammad Farhan said.

He was speaking at Selangor Saring held in Section 24 earlier today. Batu Tiga state assemblyman Rodziah Ismail was also present to inspect the programme and to mingle with its participants.

Dr Mohammad Farhan added that public response to Selangor Saring is becoming increasingly positive, with more youths taking part than compared to at its start, when mostly the elderly joined.

The state government has channelled RM3.4 million to ensure the success of Selangor Saring, which will benefit 39,000 people, particularly those with a family history of hereditary ailments, obese individuals, or those leading unhealthy lifestyles.

Physical screening, blood and urine tests, eye, cervical and breast cancer, occult or colorectal faecal blood testing, and prostate tests are all available during the programme, which runs until September 4.
