AMPANG, Aug 17 — The effort to obtain the National Geopark status for the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark (GHL Geopark) is aligned with the goals under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

State executive councillor for environment and green technology Hee Loy Sian said the state government aims to make Selangor a Smart, Liveable and Prosperous state by 2025.

“The RS-1 comprises four main strategies namely strengthening the economy, improving social inclusivity and people’s wellbeing, driving sustainability and good governance.

“The implementation of Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark (GHL Geopark) is in line with all the aforementioned aspects and it is impactful in complementing the plan, particularly for the tourism sector,” he said.

Hee was speaking at the officiation of the GHL Geopark National Evaluation Session at the Grand Barakah Hotel yesterday.

The councillor added the GHL Geopark will also have a positive spillover effect on Selangor, in line with the RS-1.

“The Selangor State Tourism Master Plan 2021-2026 is expected to double the tourist arrivals, increase tourism receipts and revenue, boost local economies and create more job opportunities, especially in the tourism sector,” he said.
